For many, July is the time to kick back, relax, and enjoy two weeks of top-notch tennis from the sun-soaked (or, if this year’s event is anything to go by, just soaked) courts of Wimbledon.

Then, when the weekend rolls round, there’s no better time to dust off your rackets, pop down to your local club and channel your inner Navratilova or Federer.

And as Wimbledon’s finals weekend looms, we’re delighted to announce our partnership with Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club, who are set to host what is sure to be a brilliant day of family fun – this coming Saturday 15th July.

Supporting one of the South West’s oldest tennis clubs

Our community-focused ethos is all about helping to secure the future of the South West. That’s why we look to support local businesses, causes, projects or initiatives in any way we can.

Together with Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club, we’re bringing a fantastic event to the entire Clevedon community – one that promises to not only bring families together, but also provide them with a brilliant means of staying active.

Founded all the way back in 1880, Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club is a welcoming facility offering everyone in the local community the chance to pick up a racket and have some fun – regardless of their age or ability.

“Sponsoring a local club like this one, which provides so much for the local community, is hugely important to us as a business,” says Matt Gerrard, our Brand Engagement Manager here at Truespeed.

“Sports just like tennis can have an incredibly positive impact – not just on an individual level, but also for the entire area. It’s a great way of bringing local people together and creating connections that can last a lifetime.”

What to expect from our Family Fun Day…

The Family Fun Day is all set to take place on Saturday 15 July – just in time for the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Final – and includes a wide variety of activities everyone can enjoy.

There, families can test their tennis knowledge, enjoy a variety of challenging games, have a friendly rally with (and get to know) other members of the local community, and even learn something new from one of the club’s coaches.

Check out the schedule below for a full rundown of what to expect…

  • 9am–10am: Family Cardio Tennis
A rhythmic tennis workout (set to music) for adults and children aged 11+.
  • 10am–11am: Parent and Child coaching
An introduction to the Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club’s coaching programme for children aged 3–8 years.
  • 11am–12pm: Coaching for ages 8–13 years
  • 12pm–1pm: Tennis for teens aged 13–18 years
A chance for teens to play on court with friends.
  • 1pm–2pm: Parent Play
A chance for parents to play with other parents and receive top tips and advice from Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club’s professional coaches.

Fancy booking yourself a place? If so, be sure to drop Matt Rogers, Head Coach at Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club, a message on 0778 871 3672.

Growing the game with the next generation

As part of our partnership, we’re also sponsoring Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club’s brilliant “Schools Tennis Roadshow” initiative – a project which sees the club’s coaches grow and share the sport with the next generation.

The roadshow offers local schools the chance to enjoy a day dedicated to tennis, with Matt Rogers and his team of coaches inspiring children to take up the sport and get active with their friends and peers.

The day also involves providing teachers at each school with a short course designed to help expand their tennis knowledge and grow their confidence in teaching it to their pupils. So far Clevedon Lawn Tennis Coaches have delivered tennis teaching to Clevedon Secondary School, All Saints Primary School, Yeo Moor Primary School, St Nicholas Chantry Primary School, Tickenham Primary School, and Hannah More and Grove Primary School.

“We’re delighted to be working with Truespeed to help take tennis to local schools,” Matt says. “It means we can give hundreds of children the opportunity to try a new sport, and, hopefully, bring them to the club and playing regularly.”
